However, if on the other hand, you have just begun Induction and you are following the Atkins Nutritional way for the first time, you may be experiencing some short spells of dizziness or mild headaches. ‘Didn’t Dr Atkins die of a heart attack?’ or ‘Wasn’t Dr Atkins obese when he died?’ are questions we’re asked from time to time. Unfortunately, many years after the death of Dr Atkins these harmful myths are still out there.
The reason I say they are harmful is that they have prevented (and possibly still do) people who believed them, from following the Atkins way-of-eating. Or maybe they stopped following it when friends/co-workers derided them. Based on false information those individuals may not have been able to reach and maintain their weight loss goals and even more importantly gain the health benefits offered by the Atkins Nutritional approach. One of the first questions we are often asked is: “Can I drink alcohol while following this plan?”. The reason we are all so keen to know whether or not alcohol is allowed on the Atkins diet is a debate for another day!
So why is alcohol one of those things that we are told not to consume while following a diet and are you allowed to drink alcohol while following the Atkins nutritional lifestyle?
On Induction phase 1 alcohol is not allowed. But Induction is only for two weeks. The reason alcohol is restricted on a low carb diet, especially at the start is, when ingested into the body it is metabolized before the fat in your body, so in that case alcohol is treated (from the bodies perspective) like a macro-nutrient. When we speak about fast food, we are not speaking about food that comes from a fast food chain of restaurants. Glorious Food Choices on Phase 1 of Atkins
Whenever we speak to someone about the Atkins® way of eating, usually the first thing that we encounter is an objection wrapped in a question. “Isn’t that an all meat diet?”. Nope, there is no end of vegetables, meats, poultry, fruit, nuts and grains that can be eaten while on the Atkins® diet.
You wake up to the alarm going off, you look at the clock and sigh. You have to be dressed, fed and out of the house in 30 minutes. Well, you can’t exactly leave the house in your pajamas, so getting dressed is a priority. You can’t arrive late into work either, so something has got to give? Most of us will sacrifice eating a proper breakfast because it can take too much time to prepare, cook and eat. So what we are all guilty of is eating on the go, grabbing something quick and easy like a breakfast bar or a quick bowl of cereal. Lots of carbohydrates and sugars leaving you with a blood sugar high opening the door for a blood sugar crash in, oh let’s say three hours time. Continue reading
